Frequently asked questions about the VEP Self-Service Cloud
What does access to the VEP Self-Service Cloud cost?
Access itself is free; there is no base fee. You only pay for the resources you create – memory, vCPUs, storage, load balancers and public IP addresses. Every resource is billed by the hour. If you do not create any resources, there are no costs at all. This lets you get to know the platform at your own pace.
How does hourly billing work?
Each resource has a fixed price per hour. You are billed for the time the resource exists. The monthly price in the table is the maximum amount for continuous operation over 31 days. If you use a resource for only a few days or hours, you pay correspondingly less – ideal for tests, projects and peak loads.
What does OpenStack compatible mean?
OpenStack is a widely used open standard for cloud infrastructure. Because the VEP is OpenStack compatible, you can manage your resources not only in the interface but also via the API – for example with Terraform or the OpenStack CLI. This lets you automate the build-up of your environment, create it reproducibly and integrate it into your deployment processes.
Who is responsible for the servers?
In the self-service cloud you manage your resources yourself, including the operating system, software, updates and security. We operate and monitor the platform underneath. If you do not want to look after server operation yourself, a managed vServer or our enterprise cloud with fixed configurations is the right choice. We are happy to advise you on which option fits.
Where are the VEP servers located?
The VEP is our own cloud platform and runs in data centres in Germany. Your data does not leave Germany, operation is GDPR compliant, and LCube is certified to ISO/IEC 27001. This makes the self-service cloud suitable for businesses that value data protection and a European alternative to large US cloud providers.
How do I get access?
Send us a short request with your company details via the contact form. We set up your access to the VEP and send you your login details. After that you create your resources yourself. If you like, we discuss your project beforehand and help you get started, for example with networking, load balancing or automation.
