Frequently asked questions about Node.js hosting
In which plans can I use Node.js?
You run Node.js in the BusinessPaket and BusinessPaket Pro. Both plans include SSH access, which you need for npm, build steps and deployments. The Micropaket and PowerPaket support PHP, Perl and CGI, but no SSH access. You can switch to a Business plan at any time without data loss.
Can I test the plan for free first?
Yes. You can test the plan free of charge and without obligation for one month: click “Try free for 1 month” or tick the trial option in the order form. After the trial period you receive an email. If you want to continue, book the plan – your data and access details are kept. If you do not reply, the trial plan is deleted and there are no costs. One trial plan is possible per customer.
How do I set up a Node.js application?
In Plesk you activate Node.js for your domain or subdomain, define the start script and choose the Node.js version. You upload your code via Git or SSH and install the dependencies with npm. After a deployment you restart the application in Plesk. Our specialists are happy to help you with the initial setup.
Can I use Node.js and PHP together?
Yes. In the same plan you can, for example, run a WordPress website under your main domain and a Node.js API under a subdomain. Both can use the same MySQL database or separate databases. This way you extend existing websites with your own interfaces without having to run an additional server.
When do I need a managed vServer?
A managed vServer pays off when your Node.js application permanently holds many connections, for example via websockets, needs services such as Redis or requires guaranteed resources. You then get your own server, and we take care of installation, updates and monitoring. For smaller APIs and webhooks the BusinessPaket is sufficient.
