Acronis Disaster Recovery – keep working even when everything fails

A hardware failure, a fire in the server room or a ransomware attack can stop your operations from one minute to the next. With Acronis Disaster Recovery you start your critical servers and workloads directly in the Acronis Cloud in an emergency. Your business processes keep running while your own infrastructure is restored calmly.

Preconfigured recovery plans and regular tests make sure that the emergency procedure works. In normal operation you only pay for storage – computing power is only charged when systems actually run in the cloud during a test or an emergency.

How disaster recovery works

  1. Back up
Your systems are continuously backed up with Acronis to the Frankfurt data centre.
  2. Plan and test
We create recovery plans and test the failover regularly.
  3. Failover
In an emergency your systems start in the Acronis Cloud – reachable via public IP addresses.
  4. Return
Once your infrastructure is restored, the systems return with all changes.

Prices and compute points

Compute points are the usage-based billing unit. They are only consumed when systems run in the Acronis Cloud during a failover test or an emergency – depending on CPU, memory and runtime.

Frequently asked questions about disaster recovery

What does disaster recovery cost in normal operation?

In normal operation you only pay for the backup storage for disaster recovery at 0,11 € per GB and month including VAT and, if needed, public IP addresses at 4,64 € per month. Compute points are only incurred when your systems are started in the Acronis Cloud during a test or an actual emergency. This way protection costs only a fraction of your own standby data centre.

How are compute points calculated?

The number of compute points depends on the CPU and memory of the started system: a server with 2 vCores and 8 GB RAM uses 4 compute points per hour, i.e. 0,43 € per hour including VAT. If it runs in the cloud for two days in an emergency, that costs around 20,60 €. Larger systems use correspondingly more points. The table above shows all levels at a glance.

How quickly are my systems running again after an outage?

With prepared recovery plans your critical systems start in the Acronis Cloud within minutes. Exactly how quickly depends on the number and size of the systems and on the network setup. That is why we test the failover regularly together with you. This way you know in advance how long an emergency takes, and your team knows the procedures when it matters.

Which businesses benefit from disaster recovery?

Disaster recovery pays off wherever an outage of servers or applications quickly becomes expensive: for ERP systems, databases, production control, online shops or systems with customer data. It is also important for businesses with only one site, because a fire or burglary would otherwise stop all operations. We advise you on which systems belong in the emergency plan.
