CloudLinux OS – stable servers for many customers and websites
CloudLinux OS is a Linux operating system for web servers that host many websites or customers side by side. It gives every hosting account its own limits for CPU, memory and I/O and isolates the accounts from one another. This way an overloaded or compromised website no longer puts the whole server at risk.
CloudLinux brings stability and security especially to agency servers that host the websites of several clients. On managed servers at LCube we install CloudLinux for you on request and integrate it into Plesk. You can also purchase the licence on its own from us.

What CloudLinux does on your server
Resource limits (LVE)
stabilityEvery hosting account gets fixed limits for CPU, memory, I/O and processes. Load peaks on one website no longer slow down the others.
CageFS
isolationEvery account runs in its own isolated file system. Users see neither other customers' data nor sensitive system files.
MySQL Governor
databaseMonitors the database load per account and throttles individual users who overload the database – in the Shared Pro and Legacy editions.
PHP Selector and HardenedPHP
PHPYou can choose the right PHP version for every account. HardenedPHP also provides older PHP versions with security fixes.
Monitoring and analysis
monitoringWebsite monitoring with alerts and the Slow Site Analyzer show which websites are slow; PHP X-Ray finds the cause in the code.
AccelerateWP
WordPressSpeeds up WordPress websites directly on the server – included in Solo, Admin and Shared Pro.
The CloudLinux editions
The editions differ mainly in the number of hosting accounts and their feature set. For agency managed servers we recommend CloudLinux OS Shared Pro.
CloudLinux OS Solo
1 accountFor a single hosting account, such as a server with one website. Includes CageFS, PHP Selector, website monitoring, PHP X-Ray and AccelerateWP, but no resource limits per account.
CloudLinux OS Admin
up to 5 accountsFor up to five hosting accounts, for example a few projects of your own. Adds resource limits and SecureLinks; MySQL Governor is not included.
CloudLinux OS Shared Pro
recommendedFor any number of hosting accounts with the full feature set: resource limits, MySQL Governor, PHP X-Ray, AccelerateWP and centralised monitoring. Our recommendation for agency servers.
CloudLinux OS Legacy
unlimitedThe previous shared hosting edition with resource limits and MySQL Governor for any number of accounts. It no longer receives new features; for new servers we recommend Shared Pro.
CloudLinux for agencies: many clients, one server
If your agency hosts the websites of several clients on its own managed server, all websites share CPU, memory and database. Without limits, a single faulty plugin, a rush of visitors to an online shop or a compromised website can slow down the entire server – and with it all clients at once. CloudLinux prevents this because every account gets fixed limits and is isolated from the others. For servers like these we recommend CloudLinux OS Shared Pro.

Frequently asked questions about CloudLinux
What do I need CloudLinux for?
CloudLinux pays off as soon as several websites or customers run on one server. It limits the resources of every hosting account and isolates the accounts from one another. A website with a load peak, faulty code or injected malware therefore no longer affects the others. For agencies that run many client websites on one server, this means more stability, more security and fewer disruptions that hit all clients at the same time.
Which CloudLinux edition suits my server?
That depends mainly on the number of hosting accounts. Solo is intended for a single account, Admin for up to five accounts. For servers with many customers, as run by agencies, we recommend CloudLinux OS Shared Pro with the full feature set. The Legacy edition no longer receives new features and is mainly relevant for existing installations. We are happy to advise you personally on the right edition.
Does LCube install CloudLinux on my server?
Yes, on managed servers at LCube we are happy to install CloudLinux for you if you would like to use it. We switch the operating system to CloudLinux and integrate it into Plesk. If you run your server yourself, you can also purchase the licence on its own from us. Get in touch and we will check together with you whether your server meets the requirements.
What is the difference between CloudLinux and Imunify360?
Both come from the same vendor and complement each other. CloudLinux keeps order on the server: it limits the resources per account and isolates the accounts from one another. Imunify360 protects against attacks from outside, for example with a firewall, web application firewall and malware scanner. On agency servers with many client websites the combination of both is particularly effective. More about Imunify360
