OpenProject combines work packages, Gantt charts, agile backlogs and boards, time tracking, wiki and meetings in one web interface. We install the free Community Edition on your own managed virtual server in Germany; if you wish, we set up an Enterprise licence from the vendor.

Frequently asked questions about OpenProject servers
OpenProject or Redmine – which fits better?
Both are open-source project management tools. OpenProject offers Gantt charts, backlogs, boards, time tracking and meetings in a modern interface and suits classic, agile and hybrid projects. Redmine is leaner, highly customisable and extendable with plugins, for example with a helpdesk. If you work a lot with schedules and milestones, OpenProject is usually the better fit; if the ticket system comes first, Redmine often is. We are happy to advise you.
Which OpenProject edition do you install?
We install the free OpenProject Community Edition. It is open source and includes the core features for project planning, work packages, Gantt charts, backlogs, time tracking and wiki. If you want to use features of the Enterprise edition, you purchase the licence from the vendor OpenProject GmbH – we then install it on your server by arrangement. This way you only pay licence costs if your team really needs the additional features. Send an enquiry
Do I get root access?
No. The servers are managed servers: you work via SSH and in the OpenProject web interface, and we handle installation, updates and monitoring. This keeps the server secure and up to date. Because we take responsibility for secure operation, root access is not included. For you this means no effort for patches and maintenance, and more time for your projects. If you need additional software or a special configuration, our specialists set it up for you by arrangement.
Can you install additional applications?
Yes. We install and configure your Enterprise licence, Mattermost or integrations with GitLab by arrangement. This turns your server into a complete development and project environment, looked after by a single provider. It is important that the server has enough resources for all applications – we are happy to recommend the right size. For special requirements we also design your environment individually, for example with high availability on our VEP Cloud. Send an enquiry
What is the contract term?
The minimum term is 3 months. You order your OpenProject server conveniently via our order form, and we set up the server and OpenProject for you. All prices are monthly and include 19% VAT; alternatively you can pay yearly – you will find the yearly prices with each plan. If you have questions about the contract or the right server size, our specialists are happy to advise you personally.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes, you can move to a larger server at any time. If your team grows or the load increases, you can switch from VOP150 to VOP250, for example, and get more CPU cores, memory and NVMe storage. That way you start with the size you need today. For even higher requirements we run your server with high availability on our own VEP Cloud on request. Get in touch – we plan the switch together with you.
Where are the servers located?
In German data centres. LCube itself is certified to ISO/IEC 27001, and operation is GDPR compliant. Your server runs on brand-name hardware with unlimited traffic and is backed up daily. Our team is based in Germany too – when you have questions, you reach experienced specialists rather than a call centre. We have been providing hosting for businesses since 1995 and know what secure development and project environments require.
