What is DevOps?
DevOps is not a single piece of software but a way of working: development and operations work closely together, recurring tasks are automated and every change reaches production quickly, safely and traceably. Four principles shape DevOps:

Frequently asked questions about DevOps
What exactly does DevOps mean?
DevOps combines development and operations and describes a way of working in which both work closely together. Recurring tasks such as builds, tests and deployments are automated, infrastructure is described as code and monitoring provides fast feedback. The result is shorter release cycles, fewer errors in production and a team that can concentrate on actual software development.
Which tools do I need for DevOps?
At its core you need version control such as Git, a CI/CD solution for automatic builds and tests, a platform for deployments – such as Kubernetes – and monitoring. Many teams rely on GitLab because it combines version control, code reviews and CI/CD in one application. Redmine is well suited for project planning and tickets. We advise you on the combination that fits your team and operate the tools for you.
Do I absolutely need Kubernetes for DevOps?
No. Kubernetes is ideal for containerised applications that need to scale or consist of many services. However, many teams start successfully with Git or GitLab, automated pipelines and a managed vServer as the target system. When your application grows, the step to containers and Kubernetes is possible at any time. We accompany you and make sure the environment fits your requirements.
Can I take my existing repositories and projects with me?
Yes. We migrate Git and Subversion repositories, GitLab projects and Redmine data from other providers or from your own data centre. History, branches and tickets are preserved. We plan the move together with you so that your team can keep working with as little interruption as possible. On request we also accompany the switch from Subversion to Git.
How secure is my DevOps environment at LCube?
Your tools run in data centres in Germany, operation is GDPR compliant and LCube itself is certified to ISO/IEC 27001. We keep the systems up to date, back up your data regularly and monitor all services around the clock. On request we connect your environment to your company network via VPN and check your code with automatic security scans directly in the merge request.
How much does a DevOps environment cost?
That depends on your team and your tools. Git hosting is available from 32,90 € per month, your own GitLab server from 101,15 €, Redmine hosting from 3,49 € and a Jenkins server from 54,74 €, each including VAT.
